I have degassed all solvents being used and flushed the system on all channels at a rate of 5 mL for 10 mins per channel. The system consist of a binary pump and a Variable wavelength detector. The test run consists of a 50/50 H20/ACN mobile phase with a flow rate of 0.6 mL/min, injection volume of 0.5 uL at RT with Detector set at 254 absorbance. After a few test runs it appears that i have ALOT of baseline noise both irregular when running the system and drifting with the system is on stand-by. Yes, I have a call in to tech support Varian.I have recently started working with a refurbished Agilent 1100 HPLC system. What needs to happen at the end of my method to cause the second sample to get injected? So, I could use some suggestions from folks using similar systems. I've also tried touching the lines together manually (which would be the same as a contact closure), but neither seems to trigger the start of another run. I've got a contact closure at the end of my current method, which I thought was supposed to trigger the autosampler to start, but that doesn't seem to be working.

The autosampler does its thing, and starts the clock on the computer upon injection. As long as I click "run" on the computer to get the computer to "waiting for inject" (I have an "inject wait" on my first step of my method), then start in the autosampler window (on the computer), the first run starts fine.

(One of the three - another one is already used to communicate with the UV-vis.) (My manual autosamplers use the same method.) And it is connected via P2 to the aux (?) connection on the pump, which are supposed to signal it to start the next run, I think. It also is connected via P1 outputs to the pump, doing a contact closure upon autosampler injection. My autosampler is connected via flat (DB9?) cable in the same chain as the pumps, UV module, and computer. I've been trying to work through the Star manual, the autosampler manual, and the 215 manual, but I'm a bit stuck.

I have an old Varian modular system - computer (windows 98) running Star 5.5, a couple of 215 pumps, UV module (320) and am trying to add a new (used) 410 autosampler.
